Examples of painted fiberglass sculptures

Sculpture Series

A sculpture series along the Buxton corridor will visually tell the story of our community.

*Please note: Image shown is not a final design and is meant only to illustrate a possible concept.*

Each sculpture will present a different artistic design that represents an important touchstone of our local culture. We are currently planning for 6 sculptures, each with one of the following themesHot Air Balloons, Simpson College, Opera, Square, County Fair/Ag and the Founding of Indianola.

A preliminary idea is to do all the sculptures in a cloud shape made of fiberglass, with each being painted in a different design (see examples of painted fiberglass sculptures). However, we will be working with the community to decide what the final designs and materials will be. The designs on the sculptures will correspond directly with the "storytelling tour."

Sculptures will be designed by professional artists with oversight from our team to ensure consistency. We will do a call for artists with a competitive selection process.

Implementation Partners: Indianola Public Arts Commission and property owners where sculptures are placed, including: Warren County, DMMO, Simpson, City of Indianola.

We are seeking sponsors to adopt a sculpture! The cost is $7,000 and includes naming rights and ability to choose your theme (first-come, first-served). You may also co-sponsor and split the cost with another sponsor.
